Are their scholorships and grants for single mothers wanting to obtain a four year degree? Please help?

I live in Atlanta Ga and will hopefully be attending Georgia State University and want to know if there are programs, grants, or scholarships for single mothers attending school

Call the financial aid office for the college you are going to attend. They will have the best info for your college.

You’ll need to fill out the federal FAFSA form (fafsa.com). You need to do so accuratley as this is used to make all financial decisions regarding grants etc.

Depending on your income, Pell Grants are one avenue. But again that will be determined by the FAFSA form. Your financial aid advisor can help you. Make them your best friend.

Mothers Raising Sons

Mothers Raising Sons

$5.99

Why are boys so noisy? Why do they break things? Why are they fascinated with things that can burn, blind and cripple them? Why do they lose the gift of speech and get so smelly at adolescence? All this and more is revealed, with some surprising conclusions about what we think we know about the differences between boys and girls, and a few tilts at sacred cows. With practical examples and case studies to help all mothers raising boys, there’s particular comfort for single mothers worried about the lack of men in their son’s lives. Whether you’re a mum, a harassed grandparent, or a guardian raising boys who may not be your sons but are your boys all the same, this book’s for you. If you want effective strategies instead of platitudes, real solutions instead of catch-phrases, then welcome to the real world of raising boys.

federal pell grants eligibility

A Pell Grant is a financial-needs-based Federal government grant that you never have to repay. The Federal government began awarding it in the 1960’s and it was named after Claiborne Pell, a United States Senator. The reason behind the creation of this grant was to help poor have the opportunity to receive a college education. Because of this, it is only given to low-income undergraduate students.

These grants must be used at one of the 5,400 participating institutions. Your school will use the grant money to pay off your school tuition and fees or pay you directly usually by check. Money is disbursed at least once a semester.

Students will also need to show that they are making satisfactory progress with their studies. The Federal Pell Grant eligibility is generally based on the following criteria:

1. Most importantly, you must be in a situation of financial need. Most Pell Grants are paid to students with family incomes of less than $20,000, however there are often exceptions to this.

2. You must either have a high school diploma, GED, or show that you will be able to benefit from the tuition or program that is being offered.

3. You must have a valid Social Security number.

4. The student must be a US citizen or permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen.

If you would like to apply for a Federal Pell Grant you can do so on the FAFSA web site. Payment will probably be made by the school you attend and they have various ways of paying the money out. You will have to find this out from the college that you are going to attend.

To get a quick start though, you might like to apply for the scholarship below which is provided by private funding. As opposed to the Pell Grant, it is just a short and quick application form with very few requirements that will take only a minute or two. Head on over now and get started on the road to your tertiary education.
