Do You Think Canada should become a superpower & why?

I personally think that Canada could become a superpower. Look at history, we had a massive overhauls of our military during the first and second world wars. Granted everything went to the war effort (car company, women pantyhose material for parachutes etc) but do you think in a relatively short period of time…say 5-15 years we could become a superpower?

Countries don’t become superpowers based on the criteria that they *should*, they just do or don’t, depending on how strong and smart they are.

I’d like to open a home for women being released from a correctional center. Need help on how to get started

I live in the state of IL. Would like to open a home for women that really would like to make a change in their lives. Would like to take them through a rites of passage. Children would be ok. would also like one for seniors that needs only a little supervision, that do not want to go to a nursing home, they would live in a house with other people like themselves.i don’t know how to get started, for i will have to apply for grants. I do have a 501c.

II would start with the County building and see if they would have any information for you or at least guide you into the right direction. Another place you might want to check out is your local police department to see if there is anything already something like that in your community.
I too live in Illinois and would love to hear your ideas and would like to help in any way I can.

The Carol M. Whit Physical Education Program (PEP) gives out millions of dollars in grant money each year to schools and community organizations (faith-based organizations included) to help them implement or expand their physical education programs for students in K-12. Each school or organization may receive anywhere from $100,000 to $500,000, to be used for equipment, support and staff training.

How to Qualify

To qualify for the grant, the school or organization must demonstrate that it has designed and begun implementing a physical education program that meets the state’s standards for physical education. The program must do at least one of the following:

  1. Help student’s improve, maintain and understand physical well-being as well as provide regular fitness assessments.
  2. Provide opportunities for the development of social skills and cooperation via physical activities.
  3. Provide instruction in motor skills and physical activities that will help enhance students’ mental, social and physical development.
  4. Develop and provide instruction in cognitive concepts relating to physical fitness that will help support and promote healthy lifestyles.
  5. Instruct students in regards to good nutrition and healthy eating.
  6. Provide physical education teachers with opportunities for professional development and to stay up to date with current research and trends in the field of physical education.

The Obama Administration’s Proposal Concerning the PEP Grant

The President’s budget for the fiscal year of 2011 includes a proposal to streamline the U.S. Department of Education by consolidating 38 educational programs into 11 new authorities. Under the proposed change, the Carol M. Whit PEP Grant would be consolidated along with five other programs into a new authority called “Successful, Safe and Healthy Students”. This doesn’t mean that the PEP grant is going away; it will simply be under consolidated financial management. The “Successful, Safe and Healthy” students program has a budget of $410 million, which is more than the current funds of the individual programs combined.

Currently, the proposal is still under the works. Congress must still determine a framework for all the USDE programs and their funding levels. There is no detailed language drafted yet with respects to how the Successful, Safe and Healthy Students program specifically will work.

grants electronics and more

For students who are interested in a technical career, such as one that has to do with mechanics, electronics, or a similar occupation, a degree program at a technical school might be just what they are looking for to jump start their professional career. There are many benefits to attending a technical school over another postsecondary institution, including:

Savings on tuition. Technical schools cost much less than other types of higher education institutions. Usually, students can attend a program in a technical school, and complete a program, without the need for obtaining student loans. However, most technical schools will offer financial aid for students who need it.

Proximity. Many communities have local technical colleges that train students for careers. Because students can live at home while they are going to school, they get to save money on room and board, as well on travel expenses. The close proximity of technical schools is often the most appealing attribute for potential students.

Career Demands. The type of careers that students receive upon graduation from schools are definitely in high demand. Students can usually choose from such careers as auto or airplane mechanics, welding, drafting, computer technology, and many health care careers. In today’s job market, these types of careers are in high demand, and will be in high demand well into the future. Students can usually work with career placement services to obtain employment immediately upon graduation.

Short duration of programs. Programs in technical schools usually last between half a year and a year; however, there are some degree or certificate plans that can last longer than that. Because students can complete these programs quickly, they are able to enter the workforce in a short length of time.

If you are interested in beginning a program in a local school, the first step is to decide which kind of program is right for you. Are you mechanically inclined? Do you enjoy computers? Have you always had a knack with making people feel comfortable? For those who have trouble deciding on a career path, a visit to your local library, or even to a college career center, will usually link you up with some resources for researching degree programs. Once you have decided on a type of program, research several technical schools in your area until you find one that has a program you are interested in, as well as a schedule that works with yours.

HEALTH CARE (Paperback)

HEALTH CARE (Paperback)

$22.68

As access to sufficient health care continues to become a dominant—and divisive—issue in the world today, this resource acts as a primer to the public health care system Canada has had in place for the last 30 years. While explaining the program`s cost efficiency and dramatically better health outcomes compared with the United States` private health care system, it also addresses the complexities of the program, as well as the aspects that need improvement—such as wait times and the aging boomer generation. This analysis offers a detailed introduction on how the Canadian system works and assesses reforms currently underway, concluding that expanding Canada`s public health care system, rather than privatizing it, is the best way to improve it.
