Holiday Shopping Destinations

The holidays are a time to spend time with family and friends, partake in fun winter festivities, and – of course – shop till you drop. Retailers are gearing up for the holiday season and travelers, though more budget-conscious than in years past due to the weak economy, are ready to dole out green on everything from clothing to electronics. Stores such as Macy’s are expected to see an uptick in consumer spending for Black Friday and Cyber Monday compared with 2008, thanks largely to a slowly rebounding economy and major discounts shoppers look to avail themselves of. Read on for a roundup of holiday shopping hot spots in major cities.

Shop in the Big Apple

With shops along its famed Madison and Fifth Avenues drawing travelers to the Big Apple year-round, New York City has become a true shopping mecca. Many of the world’s most upscale boutiques, from Gucci and Coach to Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, are conveniently located on Madison Avenue. World-famous Fifth Avenue is lined with luxury stores including Louis Vuitton, Prada and Tiffany & Co.  If you’re a price-conscious shopper, you can opt for New York department stores like Macy’s 10-floored flagship store in Herald Square. A wide range of budget-friendly hotels lie near Fifth Avenue including The Gershwin Hotel, Wellington Hotel, Millennium Broadway Hotel and Murray Hill East Hotel. Offering something to fit every taste and budget, it’s no wonder travelers far and wide come to New York City to get their shop on.

Holiday Bargains by the Bay

With high-end boutiques like Dior, Giorgio Armani and De Beers, as well as department stores including Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Macy’s, San Francisco’s Union Square is a popular shopping destination for business and leisure travelers alike. The Westfield San Francisco Centre, just two blocks from Union Square along Market Street, boasts more than 170 boutiques such as Herve Leger and Hugo Boss. What’s more, great accommodation abounds, and you won’t have to go far to find it. Elegant Hotel Abri and avant-garde Hotel Diva are set in the very heart of Union Square. The Kensington Park Hotel and Hotel Nikko are also a short stroll away, which means you’ll be plopping into bed in no time after a long day scouring the aisles for gifts and waiting in checkout lines.

Winter Deals in the Windy City

In National Geographic’s 2006 edition of “The 10 Best of Everything – An Ultimate Guide for Travelers,” the Magnificent Mile, which boasts more than 460 stores, was named one of the Ten Best Shopping Avenues in the world. (Granted, it was in good company, as Fifth Avenue and Rodeo Drive – both highlighted in this entry – made the cut.) From fine boutiques such as Cartier and Lacoste to department stores including Saks Fifth Avenue, the Mile continues to draw millions of avid shoppers annually. Travelers can stay at Inn of Chicago or the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel, both of which lie directly on the Magnificent Mile. The Ambassador East Hotel, a National Historic Landmark, is just a short walk away from the shopping hot spot, as is eco-friendly Hotel Felix.

Gift Buying in Beantown

They call Boston’s Newbury Street in Back Bay the “Rodeo Drive of the East” for a reason. It encompasses eight blocks chock full of salons, restaurants and shops specializing in everything from men’s fashion to sports apparel. Want to shop till you drop at the mall? You can pick from popular locales including Copley Place, Atrium Mall and Emerald Square Mall. Travelers can call it a night at the newly renovated Copley Square Hotel, size up The Colonnade Hotel’s sleek design, or soak up The Lenox Hotel’s old warm charm. No matter your age, Boston has something for the shopaholic in all of us.

Holiday Fever in Hollywood

The city of Los Angeles is heralded as nothing short of a shopping capital. Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills features scores of popular shops and boutiques including Chanel, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino and BVLGARI. Nearby properties include Hotel Beverly Terrace, the Mosaic Hotel, Luxe Hotel Rodeo Drive and The Tower Beverly Hills. Travelers making their way down Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade will find stores like Apple and Armani Exchange, as well as a farmers’ market and movie theater complex. Of course, there’s Hollywood’s world-famous Sunset Strip, lined with a host of restaurants and boutiques. The Le Montrose Suite Hotel and four-story, European-style Le Petit are just minutes away on foot.

With so many places to see and things to do, the holiday season can easily become hectic for shoppers, and a frail economy makes things even more challenging. While many shoppers still plan to frequent their favorite upscale venues, the budget-minded will turn to what becomes the national pastime this time of year – bargain-hunting.

grant day care

An educational path is a difficult one to follow when you’re a single mother. Paying for tuition, books, and day care, can be overwhelming and discouraging. Child care is quite expensive and will prove to be a burden when attempting to complete your education. Grants are available for mothers so that they can afford for the expenses. Single moms, who work, find themselves paying full time daycare rates while only working part time hours. Day care is a necessity for mothers but it can also become a burden.

Organizations empathize with single moms who must balance a job while finding affordable daycare. Organizations can assist in the costly expense of day care if the requirements are met. Grants for mothers are designed to promote women staying in school and in the work force. Preschool to grade K children can receive proper services through grants and other programs.

Single moms with school age children may qualify for private school grants. School grants are difficult to obtain, but it doesn’t hurt to try. If you are provided a private education grant, your child may be able to receive an exceptional education while receiving free tuition and school expenses. So as a single mother your child can still have the advantage that private deliver.

These grants will allow mothers to work or go to school while their child receives proper education. Grants are not loans so there for you do not pay a cent back. This is true for a grant and school voucher. Private school vouchers and child care grants for single mothers can make life a bit easier under circumstances that prove to be difficult.

IDS L-Glutamine with MSM (554g)

IDS L-Glutamine with MSM (554g)

$42.7

Research has shown that supplementing 5-15 grams of L-Glutamine per day can decrease muscle soreness, decrease recovery time and boost the body’s immune system. There is no better quality L-Glutamine on the market today than Total Recovery. L-Glutamine is the most prevalent amino acid in skeletal muscle tissue and blood. Research suggests that overtraining may be related to low blood L-Glutamine levels. Supplementation with L-Glutamine may aid in muscle recuperation as well as in immune system function. The presence of MSM is crucial to proper cell replacement. Under optimal conditions, new flexible cells replace old ones by attaching to flexible tissue. MSM provides the flexible bond between proteins that this process requires. Without it, tissues and cells become rigid. This can lead to the premature deterioration of various body organs. MSM also replenishes organs by increasing blood circulation and contributing to general tissue detoxification. The Inside Scoop: Total Recovery L-Glutamine by IDS is the ideal product for post workout rehabilitation for torn muscle fibers. Comical as these stats may seem, it’s no joke to report that seven of the top eight wealthiest people in the United States lack a college degree and have kids. Five of those seven are actually university drop outs. So, if we skim the surface of rationale, we could surmise that these entrepreneurs just got lucky despite their lack of focus, correct? We could, but most likely we’d be wrong. It’s far more realistic to guess that the impetus for abandoning traditional education was that these folks already had a vision of what they wanted to do, they had an idea and, as important as the idea itself, they possessed the drive to do something with it.

Unlikely many of their classmates, these are people who possess a pioneering spirit, the necessary nerve to take a calculated risk, and the intellect to decipher what a worthwhile risk may look like. The fact that these gentlemen (and one honorable-mention woman) were so able to focus on their ultimate goal is what enabled them to succeed.

Their achievements exceed what most people are able to accomplish, even with far more advanced education. There are Ph.D holders who work in retail. Unless you have the fortitude and ambition to make something of yourself, all the certificates of paper from every awe-inspiring institution on the planet aren’t going to do much for you. Sure, they might get your foot in the door, but it’s your personal creativity and self-motivation that are going to have to build the lasting impression once the rest of your entity follows. The Wharton School of Business Alumni newsletter might impress your underlings (assuming they’re studious enough to know what the Wharton School of Business is) but the people who finance your pay check won’t be bowled over unless you actually do something worth being impressed by.

Bill Gates, software king, dropped out of Harvard University. Now the 50 year-old Washington state super star, married with 3 children, is worth roughly $50 billion.

Warren Buffet, age 75, made his money in investments. He’s the only one of the top eight who completed advanced levels of education, with his undergrad at the U of Nebraska and a masters from Columbia. A widower and father of 3, Buffet is worth an estimated $42 billion.

Paul Allen, software genius who, along with Gates, founded a software empire, is now 53 and worth $22 billion. Allen is the only person on the list who is both single and childless. Allen dropped out of Washington State University.

Michael Dell dropped out of the University of Austin, Texas and built a fortune in technology. Now only 41 years old, the married father of 4 has a material net worth of $17 billion.

Sheldon Adelson is a City College of New York drop out. Married with 5 kids, Adelson, age 72, made his money in the gambling and leisure industry. His net worth is valued at $16.1 billion.

Lawrence Ellison, age 61, dropped out of the University of Illinois. Another giant in the software industry, married and a father of 2, his fortune is estimated at $16 billion.

Tying for the seventh spot are two of the exceptionally wealthy Walton clan, Christy (widow of Wal-Mart founder John) and Jim. At ages 51 and 58, respectively, both are worth $15.9 billion. The widowed Mrs. W has 1 child. Jim, married, has 4. While both of these billionaires essentially inherited their wealth, they are nonetheless actively involved in the family business and make no public mention of advanced education, treading onto common ground with their billionaire contemporaries.

Were we to assume that there is any correlation between the material and monetary assets amassed by this group and their choice to drop out of school and bear offspring, we could judge by those stats that every trailer park in the country should be crawling with millionaires. Obviously that’s not the case. There’s something more to it, and that something more is what anyone has to tap into if they crave a taste of true success.

Author Sam Robertson writes on human interest matters, including education, health, politics and more. With a vast array of published work, Robertson brings a forthright perspective to articles and texts.

nursing scholarships new york

Nearly every major city – and a lot of not so major ones – has at least one accredited nursing school. The school that you choose to attend could be a major factor in more than just the education you receive. Graduating from a well-known nursing school can put the finishing touches on your resume and guarantee you a higher starting salary, for instance. Choosing a nursing school associated with the right hospitals for your practice work can also boost your credentials – or even help you choose a specialty that you’d never have considered. If you’ve decided on your career, but not your education, here are some basic considerations to help you make the decision of where to go to nursing school.

Location

The most basic location consideration is how far away from home you want to be, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. A nursing school located in a busy metropolitan area, for example, can offer unexpected benefits in outside training, mentoring and hospitals/venues in which to complete your practicum. On the reverse side, a smaller, local school can offer a far more personalized approach. Take stock of what’s important to you to help you zero in on schools in your desired area.

Area of Study

Speaking of areas, that’s another consideration. Do you have a yen to practice pediatric oncology? Are you interested in learning the basics of patient care in a research facility? Is general nursing exactly what you want to do? Check course listings and certifications offered by the schools that you’re considering in order to determine which teach the beyond-basics things you want to learn.

Accreditation

It is important that the school you choose be accredited by one of two national organizations for general nursing (The National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education). If you are applying to a specialized program, there are separate accrediting organizations such as the Nurse Anesthetist and Nurse Midwife, The Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, and The American College of Nurse-Midwives Division of Accreditation.

Most schools are approved by a state board, but that’s not the same as accreditation. While it will enable you to sit for your NCLEX examination, it may prevent you from using the credits and going forward for continuing education, such as a BSN or master’s degree. While it is possible to get a good education from a non-accredited school, you should thoroughly investigate it to be certain that their standards meet your needs.

Hands-On Experience

You want as much experience as you can get during your training time, and that’s why it’s important to check out the school’s clinical rotation program. This is where some schools that are affiliated with major teaching hospitals may have a major advantage, particularly if they specialize in one of your particular interests. When you’re evaluating nursing schools, ask how much time you’ll spend in clinical rotation, and what disciplines and specialties you may have a chance to observe and participate in.

Examination Success

Perhaps one of the most important factors in considering a nursing school is the rate at which their students pass the NCLEX exam. Obviously, a high pass rate indicates that the school’s students have been well prepared, but a low pass rate should be a huge red flag. Don’t be shy about asking the school to provide you with their record of examination rates for the past few years.

Tuition

Finally, the amount of money that it will cost you to attend the school will have to come into play. And because tuitions in nursing schools can vary so much, your goal should be to get the absolute best education for the least amount of money. Unfortunately, the only way you’ll be able to determine this is by doing some good research into your potential schools.

Don’t let money stop you from attending the school of your choice, though. Besides traditional routes of student aid, the nursing shortage over the past two decades has opened many opportunities for education funding. Ask about financial aid and work study programs, and be sure to check with local hospitals and organizations to find out if any offer scholarships for which you can apply.

fire grant login

November 2, 2009 by Advisor

As I get involved with more and more client web sites, I am
noticing an alarming trend. Nine out of ten web site owners
cannot access control of their own sites!

What do I mean by this?

If you had to change to a new hosting company, how would you go
about it? Do you even have the login information for your domain
account? (I can hear many of you going, “Huh?”)

Or, if you want someone new to go in and make a few changes to
your web site pages, can you give them FTP access? (Again,
“Huh?”)

Facts You Need to Know

Every web site is comprised of two parts:

1. Domain name (i.e. yourname.com)

2. Web Hosting (i.e. the actual web spacewhere you “park” your
domain)

You have to sign up and pay for each of these services
separately. Even if your host offers domain name registration,
it is still two separate accounts and you need to have the login
information for each.

Domain Name

As I said, your domain name is your web site URL, such as
yoursite.com. You must pay for ownership of your domain yearly.
It’s not very expensive, but it is very important to know that
is must be renewed. If you let your registration lapse, your
site will disappear, even if your hosting account is current.

You need to be able to access your domain account to tell the
Internet where to look for your site. Your DNS settings inside
your domain account indentify the host server space where you
web site files reside.

This sounds more complicated than it really is. Your host has a
machine called a server that stores web site files. The DNS
settings tell the Internet exactly which machine houses your
files.

When you want to change hosts, you have to change these settings
to correspond to the new host’s server. This is not complicated.
Every host provides the information you need to do this easily,
provided you can login into your domain account.

To maintain control of your business web site, you must be able
to login to your domain registration account.

Web Hosting

Again, your web host provides the web space where you “park”
your domain. They store your web site files (such as graphics,
html files, etc.) on a machine call a server and then those
files become accessible via the Internet.

You need to be able to access your web site files. This is NOT
information for designers only. If you want to have complete
control of your business, you need this information too.

I’ve already mentioned FTP, which stands for File Transfer
Program. It is the software used to transfer files from your
computer’s hard to your server space and vice versa. All changes
to web sites must be made via FTP and if you don’t have the
connection information, you can’t do anything to your site
without the person who does.

In order to have complete control of your business web site, you
must have, or be able to grant, access to your web site files.

What’s the Big Deal?

I had a host once that literally disappeared. A major break down
in communication meant that while I had paid for a year’s worth
of hosting, I was going to have to settle for only two months
instead. My site was down and I had to find another host right
away. (To this day I never heard from that host again. I was
offline for weeks while I tried everything I could to reach
them!)

The point is, I didn’t know how to login to my domain
registration account to changes the DNS settings to my new
host’s server! I had long since left the host that actually
registered it for me. Thank goodness he was kind enough to
simply hand over my login information at my request. Thank
goodness he was even still in business!

And it’s the same with web sites. I can’t tell you how many of
my clients originally started off with another designer who has
moved on to other things. Some can’t even get their old designer
on the phone anymore! But, when they come to me because they’ve
decide to find someone new to work on it, they can’t give me
access to their site. In most cases they don’t have any idea
what I’m talking about when I ask.

Protect Yourself!

I know that technophobia is a real problem for some people. As
soon as someone says something like “HTML” they tune out
thinking there’s no way they’ll ever understand what’s being
said from that point forward. But your domain and hosting are
not something you can just leave to others, they are the
backbone of your business web site.

It’s really not complicated. And it’s so important to maintain
control of your business web site. You absolutely must have
access to your domain registration account AND your web hosting
account. Even if you never use the information yourself, you
need to have it. Without access to both of these accounts, your
business could end up dead in the water

grant solar kits

The kind of energy that renews itself after each use comes from nature. It’s been around for a really long time, too. When the average household turns on a light switch, many take for granted the light will come on. So, with everyone taking electricity for granted, imagine the chaos if one day no electricity was available. This could possibly happen. That’s why it is imperative for young adults to explore classes that teach installation and use of do it yourself solar power.

All types of renewable energy have been in existence for a long time. People are not as involved in learning about this as they should be, though. Nature provides all the energy anyone living on the Earth needs to live comfortably. Not only from the nature aspect, but think of the money that would be saved monthly with no electric bill.

The solar panels used to gain energy from the sun should have a reflective surface. Aluminum is one of the best items to use for this. Inside the aluminum panel houses the pipes that get and keep the energy gathered from the sun. Which then gets transformed into home energy.

The next step is wiring the energy harnessing panel to the power unit that distributes energy inside the house. Power units consist of 12 Volt batteries attached by romex cable to one inverter, and two panel boxes. One panel box is for ac power, and the other for dc power. Next, you will have to purchase a unique meter that reads incoming current and outgoing current. The current that is not needed to energize the home, will return to the ac power lines. This current will be read via the unique meter, and you will receive a check from your electric company for the power created from your solar energy source.

The energy company will call you periodically when the original electric lines need repaired or maybe for a simple pole change. Either way, the electric that is being produced by your home’s solar power generator can be a little dangerous if careful installation methods are not used. Simply turn your inverter to complete ac power and everyone will be safe. When the repair is complete you will be contacted to reconnect your dc power source.

Following these simple techniques will provide a basic outline that can be explained further by gaining knowledge on solar energy utilization. Use your best judgment mixed with some common sense and you should have minimum trouble gaining do it yourself solar power for your home.

Want to inexpensively create your own renewable energy Save thousands per year with this do it yourself solar power kit and manual. Click the blue text in this paragraph for more information now…

It is obviously necessary to keep vital data and statistics for future reference and study. One of the many principal record categories that are preserved is on divorce which is defined as the annulment of an existing legal marriage. This is not applicable to every country but for those for which it is, its process is usually a legal proceeding that is carried out at a courthouse after which the local public office will then file the Divorce Records. Whether you’re searching for paid or free divorce records, it’s best to start at the state level to see what kind of information is available and where it is kept. The main government agency for vital Public Divorce Records is the Vital Statistics Office under the Ohio Department of Health located at Columbus, Ohio. It accepts written requests mailed in with the required information and fees for abstract searches. The Ohio Department of Health can only provide abstracts of divorces that occurred in Ohio from January 1, 1954 to the current index date. As such the information would be limited but their index register can point you to the particular Clerk of the Court office where the marriage dissolution was granted. That is also where the original divorce decrees and other documents would be filed. It’s quite easy to conduct divorce record search nowadays. This sort of undertaking used to be tedious, time-consuming and often expensive. With the advent of the internet, it’s possible to get hold of Ohio divorce records with just a few clicks of the mouse on the computer. County public record registries and private national record archives abound on all the major search engines. The information on divorces encompasses the particulars of the parties involved including the children if any and details surrounding the event such as the final decree, time and place, reason, settlement, alimony, child custody and visitation and so forth. This information is useful in evaluating potential spouse, employee or other kinds of partnership. Certified copies of these documents are required in subsequent application for marriage license in most states in the US including Ohio. Of all the methods to search Ohio Divorce Records, the most popular one is the internet. Many but not all county offices operate websites to offer online services. It’s 100% with commercial record providers though. Online records are their core competency. Some provide Free Divorce Records search and charge only when the associated reports are ordered. Market rates are very reasonable and well worth the money for the professional service they render.
