Have you ever received a post card in the mail that said “You Are Guaranteed a $25,000 Grant from the U.S. Government?
Use your money to: pay bills, start or expand a business, pay for your children’s education, help you purchase or fix up your own home, or even travel the world. Then the document say that this is your final notice respond by a specific deadline.
What does your gut tell you? That this is just another scam? You are correct. It is very easy to check into these types of high pressure sales tactics. When you call the number they will offer you a grant guide for $59.00. This grant guide will have only addresses and names of grant places that you can apply to. Then the rest is up to you to make application. In other words they are not doing anything for you. What they are offering you can do yourself. Grants are not benefits or entitlements, a federal grant is an award of the financial assistance to carry out a public purpose of support or stimulation authorized by a law of the United States. In other words grants are not federal assistance or loans that you are entitled to.
Always remember no government agency will make phone calls, or send email, or letters to solicit money. Never give your personal information this is a tactic that identity thieves use to steal your identity. If you have provided personal banking information to anyone claiming to be associated with a federal agency, call your bank immediately to prevent unauthorized use of your account.
Federal Grants are not issued for personal use, but are intended for institutions and non profits to carry on projects with a public purpose. Whenever I receive any information with a lure I always check with the bbs.org to see if it is a scam. Also Grants. Gov is an excellent place to do your own research or government sponsored grants. So if you receive this type of post card. Now you know, there is no excuse to be duped into giving out personal information. Follow you gut instincts that this is a scam.
