Most people who use treadmills, either at the gym or at home, don’t consider that treadmill safety should be of the utmost importance. If you remember your first experiences trying to learn how to ride a bike without the training wheels attached then we are on the same page with this.
Knowing about treadmill safety is very important before you decide to just step on one and try to use it. With the rate of exercise injuries happening more recently, it’s of vital importance to you to be safety smart. If you have ever seen a few of the video clips from “America’s Funniest Videos”, then you have seen what can happen to people that do not consider how to use a treadmill properly. Exercise equipment can be a wonderful thing when used properly. The treadmill may look easy enough to handle, but it is important to learn about treadmill safety before you attempt to use the equipment.
The Treadmill Deck, Handrails and Shut-Off Switch
Comfort is an important part of treadmill safety. You should make sure that the treadmill you are going to use has a shock absorbent deck. The treadmill’s walking surface should be properly padded to absorb your impact. If it is not padded sufficiently, then the repetitious cycle of walking on this surface will have an impact on your feet, knees, joints and back. Especially with older individuals, back problems due to spinal injuries can result from worn down padding on treadmill surfacing.
Ensuring that the treadmill you are using is has proper handrail placement might save your day. Treadmill safety features should ensure that the handrails are properly positioned and not out of alignment from each other. The handrails are essential for beginners and those that lose their balance easily. Many treadmill accidents happen when someone loses their balance and grabs for a handrail that is not set properly.
Another treadmill safety feature that everyone needs to be aware of is the safety switch. Make sure your treadmill features an automatic shut-off in case you fall while working out on the moving treadbelt. Should this happen, the safety key will shut off the treadmill, preventing more injury from happening to someone.
Treadmills and Seniors
As with all other exercise equipment, treadmill safety for older individuals needs to be observed even more so. It is important for seniors to have a thorough physical examination before using a treadmill.
Treadmills are a very popular method of exercise for middle aged and senior citizens these days. Medically speaking, treadmills are highly recommended for people over 40 to work out on because this boosts the body’s metabolism and cardiovascular fitness when used correctly.
Don’t Overdo It
Using common sense and not pushing beyond the body’s endurance is essential when using a treadmill for exercise. When used effectively, a treadmill will improve cardiovascular fitness and overall health. But when a treadmill is used without regard to extenuating medical conditions, this can spell disaster if the medically recommended exercise regimen is disregarded. Overdoing it is not going to put you in better health faster.
Treadmills are designed to give you years of healthy workout pleasure. Millions of individuals in the United States use treadmills to stay in shape. Using them regularly for your daily workouts will keep you fit and trim. They also will add more years to your life. Don’t put yourself in jeopardy by not knowing the basics, or using faulty equipment. Treadmill safety should always come first before putting yourself at risk.

grant gov application guide

As the saying goes: “Buyer Beware”. If you see ads claiming you
qualify to receive a “free grant” for education, to start a home
business or to payoff unpaid bills, be wary. Scam artists will claim your grant application is guaranteed to be accepted and approved, and you never have to repay the money. But the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warns that these grant offers are often a scam. The grant isn’t free, nor is it guaranteed, nor is a refund.
According to the FTC, some scam artists market “free grants” in
classified ads and even provide a toll free phone number. Here’s an example of what happens when you call:
A company representative asks non-threatening, simple questions to supposedly determine if you qualify to receive a grant. The representative then acts as if he/she is checking your eligibility, and then congratulates you as being eligible. But for you to get the grant information from them, they will charge
you a processing fee. Although they will promise you that the grant is guaranteed or you can get your money back, the truth is far different.
They will tell you that the processing fee is for finding a grant source and sending you the appropriate application package in the mail. But you won’t receive an application or a source. Instead they send you a list of agencies and foundations which you must write and request an application. In order to get
your refund, you must apply to; and be rejected by, all these agencies within 90 days.
Most grantors don’t award grants to individuals for personal needs. Generally grants are to serve mankind and communities as a whole, such as job expansion, training under-employed youth, preserving history, funding charities, art museums, or for researching medical issues. So, even if you’re in a financial
hardship, or you may be an unwed mother, a single parent, a minority, etc, you’re not likely to approved. And you may as well forget about getting a refund from the grant “broker” because the conditions for a refund are nearly impossible, requiring you to apply at every grantor on the list they
provided to you and be denied by each resource within 90 days. If even one resource doesn’t reject you within the first 90 days, you won’t get your refund, nor will you get it back if the rejections are past the 90 day requirement.
If you’re thinking about applying for a grant, remember that the applications are available to you for free and that anyone who guarantees you a grant is likely to be interested in their own financial gain, not yours. If you think you may have been a victim of a grant scam, file a complaint with the FTC by
visiting http://www.ftc.gov or call toll-free, 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261.

David Byrne – David Byrne $21.65 Personnel: David Byrne (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, lap steel guitar, Clavinet, synthesizer, balafon, bells, background vocals); David Byrne; Mitchell Froom (keyboards); Valerie Naranjo (marimba, drums, talking drum, shaker, tambourine, percussion); Paul Socolow (bass instrument, acoustic bass, upright bass, acoustic bass guitar, electric bass, background vocals); Mark Agostino (temple blocks); Dollette McDonald (background vocals); Arto Lindsay (guitar); Marcus Rojas (tuba); John Medeski (organ, Farfisa, synthesizer); Bill Ware (vibraphone, marimba); Todd Turkisher (drums, frame drum, surdo, percussion, sampler); Bashiri Johnson (congas, bongos, shaker, percussion, chimes); Sue Hadjopoulas (percussion); Bebel Gilberto (background vocals).Audio Mixers: Susan Rogers; Michael Brauer.Recording information: Clinton Recording Studios, New York, NY (11/1993-12/1993).Photographer: Jean Baptiste Mondino.David Byrne`s curiosity knows no bounds. As frontman and principal songwriter for the Talking Heads, Byrne`s creative outreach encompassed the best aspects of new wave rock, rootsy funk and exploratory electronics. Together with the Heads and producer Brian Eno, Byrne brought African music and sounds from around the globe into common usage. And as leader of an all-star Latin big band, Byrne sought to reveal the mystery and majesty of Afro-Cuban music to a wider audience. For DAVID BYRNE, the songwriter distills his pan-cultural focus into the kind of stripped-down musical stylings and enigmatic, quirky narratives that made his formative work with the Talking Heads so fascinating. From the ominous opening beats of "A Long Time Ago," the album reprises the singer`s concerns with spiritual transformation and renewal in an increasingly hostile world. "I can barely touch my own self/how could I touch someone else?/I am just an advertisement/For a version of myself," he preaches on "Angels," a sort of end-of-the-west/Waiting For Godot epic.Speaking more from the heart and less from the head than on previous recordings, songs like the hard-driving "Crash," the moody "A Self-Made Man" and the dancing "Back In The Box" explore themes of insecurity, self-pride and escapism respectively, while "My Love Is You" is one of the simplest, most tender love songs Byrne`s ever penned. "You & Eye" is Byrne`s humorous reply to his early Heads` song "Heaven," and portrays Hell as a necessary antecedent, over an infectious soukous groove. The concluding "Strange Ritual" and "Buck Naked" portray spirituality as both a potentiallly insular experience, and a child-like act of sharing and surrender. Byrne once told a writer, "I don`t always know what I`m talking about, but I know if a word is wrong," and while the musical pleasures of DAVID BYRNE are instantly apparent, the depth of meaning accrues only over several listenings. Many international students wonder what the best course is to choose if they are interested in staying on permanently after they finish. We have compiled a list of our top 5 tips in making the choice:
1. Study Something You are Genuinely Interested In
Many students are tempted to study a course only because it improves their chances of qualifying for permanent residence. This is in general not a good idea for the following reasons:
- Study in Australia is expensive – you might as well study something which is going to be useful to you in your future career
- It’s very difficult to pass a course you have no interest in
- You obtain extra points if you work in your occupation after completion of your course
2. 2 Years Study
To get the full benefit of study in Australia, you will need to complete a course or courses which are registered for at least 92 weeks on CRICOS. If you are studying a one-year course, you may consider studying a second year to complete the 2 years of study, but the courses must be closely related to your occupation
3. Closely Related Studies
There are a couple of issues to consider in looking at closely related studies:
- The subject matter needs to be relevant to your occupation; and
- The level of the qualifications needs to be appropriate to your occupation
In terms of subject matter, the Department of Immigration is relatively flexible when it comes to generic business and IT courses – for example if you are studying a trade such as hairdressing, it may be possible for you to count business studies on the basis that the business studies will be useful to you in starting a business as a hairdresser.
In terms of the level of the qualification, you can run into trouble if your qualifications are at a very different level – for example, if you do a certificate qualification in hairdressing, then do a Masters in IT, the Department of Immigration may not accept that a Masters level qualification in IT will be useful to you in your career as a hairdresser.
4. Right Qualification Level
Only the following qualifications can be counted towards the 2 year study requirement:
- Degrees: this includes Bachelor degrees, Graduate Diplomas, Masters and PhDs
- Diplomas: generally this would be a 2-year qualification
- Trade certificates: Certificate III or higher in a trade occupation (Group 4 in ASCO)
Completion of the following qualifications would not in themselves suffice for the 2 year study requirement:
- Graduate Certificates (In general, these are 6-month courses and are equivalent to half a graduate diploma)
- Associate Degrees (2 year qualifications leading towards a degree)
- Certificates I and II in trade occupations (eg Certificate II in Hairdressing)
- Certificates I, II, III and IV in non-trade occupations (eg Certificate IV in Business)
However, if you have completed lower qualifications on the way to completing a qualification which can be counted, the period of study at the lower level might be counted towards the 2 year study requirement. For example, if you have completed a Certificate IV in Business and this gave credits towards completion of a Diploma in Business, then it may be possible to count the time taken to compete the Certificate IV towards the 2 year study requirement.
5. Masters or Honours Years
If you are completing a bachelor degree in Australia, then you may consider completing an honours year or masters qualification after you finish. This could give you 10 additional points, but you need to be aware of the following:
- The total period of study in Australia needs to be at least 3 years
- The masters or honours year needs to be at least 12 months
- If your degree is awarded at the honours level (eg law, engineering), this can also give you the 10 points
- The honours needs to be at the 2nd Class, First Division level or higher
- All qualifications need to be closely related

Mark Vincent (Australia) – My Dream — Mio Visionario $17.98 Fresh off a win in Australia`s Got Talent, 15-year-old (yes, 15-year-old) Mark Vincent took his operatic skills to a full album. With sales driven at least in part by the spectacle of his rise to fame, the album found its way onto the ARIA charts quickly after release. Beyond the gimmick of a young virtuoso, though, the surprising part here is that Vincent has serious vocal abilities. The opening Nessun Dorma is a somewhat clich¿d choice for opera to deliver to a mass audience, but he performs it well. As he moves through the album, the mix becomes a little more hit or miss. Vincent specializes in straightforward, stereotypical operatic forms — long notes, grandiose deliveries. In some cases the delivery of simpler English lyrics proves a downfall. The spoken portions of Leonard Cohen`s "Hallelujah" provide the first glimpse of this problem — the brevity of the lyrics seems forced and the operatic enunciation sounds stiff (and that becomes more obvious in a stray Sinatra song soon after), but a transition to longer choruses and a midsong switch to Italian suddenly show Vincent back in form. This is the case throughout the album — when he sticks to more classical (or classical crossover) fare, Vincent shines, with a gorgeous voice and very good deliveries. When he moves into more contemporary fare, the sound falls apart under the weight of his operatic grandiosity. He could have stayed safer and stuck with more opera, but he took risks instead. The majority of those risks failed to pay off, but the album as a whole shows some incredible promise. ~ Adam Greenberg Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved. |

get a government grant now

When it comes to government grants, it is not simple to obtain the funds that are provided by government agencies. There is a lot of bureaucratic paperwork to be filled and many actions to be taken in order to qualify for such government aid. Moreover, there is a particular issue that needs to be taken into account when applying for financial aid through government grants: The timing for applying.
Government grants are not available all the time and you need to be well aware of this fact in order not to let pass by an opportunity just because you did not know that there was a time limit for submissions’ presentations at the government agency that provided the financial aid. Thus, when it comes to governments grants, time is of the essence.
Government Grants Explained
Government grants are awarded by government agencies to those who meet certain eligibility criteria that the agency defines. Grants are a form of financial aid that does not need to be reimbursed and thus are greatly demanded. That’s the reason why there are such strict requirements in order to get approved for a government grant.
One of the requirements is obviously, to request the grant by filling the appropriate forms attaching all the documentation and information required by the government agency. There is always a period of time in the year when requests are received at the government agency and there is a very strict policy regarding non receivable out-of-date applications.
Timing Is The Key Word
Thus, in order to obtain a government grant successfully, you will need to prepare yourself. It is important that you collect all the information needed to present a government grant request and that you find out which is the proper time to apply for the government grant. This information can be obtained from the government agencies’ internet sites that usually have a grants section.
Also, there are many sites on the internet offering resources regarding government grants and detailed explanations on how and when to apply to each particular government grant. In any case, you should always confirm with the agency this information as any stipulation may change with a mere resolution from the agencies’ head. You need to pay special attention to the period when applications are received and the due dates. A mere delay of a single day may cause immediate rejection of your application.
Federal Register
Each time a government agency makes funds available through government grants, they are required to announce the terms for approval and the period for application presentations in the Federal Register. The Federal Register has a web site you can consult and so do the government agencies. You will be able to find there all the information you need in order to successfully apply for a government grant. There are also some sites that take the job to put all the information from each agency together and present it in a user-friendly manner. Some of these sites also offer assistance on filling the applications and advice as to which grant to apply and how to do it in order to boost your chances of getting approved.

Editing your own manuscript isn’t difficult, but it requires time and energy, and the payoff is enormous. First, you save a ton of money by doing the edit yourself. Second, even if you end up using a professional editor, fees will be significantly reduced since your manuscript will be that much closer to perfect. Do a quick on-line search for do-it-yourself editing books. You will soon discover they have one weakness in common: They assume that you already perfectly know grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Thus, with most of these guides, you are back to square-one. It doesn’t have to be that way. Organic Editing is a much simpler, budget-friendly way to improve your manuscript. Touted as new-age by many, organic editing is a process that combines the oldest and newest methods of correcting the written word. In order to do a complete organic edit, there are some basic requirements. First, find a few friends who are willing to help. Second, be sure to use a simple spell checker and grammar program. Many are available on-line for free. Finally, be willing to read your book out loud to yourself and others several times (this is the most critical step). The time you spend at this endeavor is worth its weight in gold. The final product will be a flowing, tight, virtually error-free document.
The three most common questions I’ve received about Organic Editing:
1. Do spell checkers and grammar robots work?
Answer: Yes and no. It depends which ones you use. Modern spell bots are pretty good, but they miss lots of common like-sounding words; their/there, rose/rows, too/two, etc. By working with a list of fewer than 100 common sound-alikes, you’ll weed out 99% of the problem. Grammar checkers are satisfactory provided you know their limitations. Yes, they are pathetic when it comes to suggesting corrections, but remarkable in finding awkward constructions and areas of text where mistakes lurk. Best to look at underscores, circle questionable passages, then totally rewrite those particular segments. Again, the key to organic editing is the “aloud” component, something which is irreplaceable, and absolutely cannot be done by a robot.
2. Does Organic Editing make my book perfect?
Answer: No. Nothing will make your book perfect, not even a professional editor. An organic edit will find many more errors than the typical self-edit, which goes something like this: Re-read the document, proof it for grammar and spelling, possibly have a friend look it over for mistakes. That’s that. Easy. Boring. Ineffective.
Organic editing is an alternative method, as it relies on your own innate ability to hear things as they should be. Most of us are much better writers than we think we are. We tend to ignore our inborn, subconscious language skills. Hearing is the key. That’s why a thorough self edit of your book, resume’, term paper, or business document can generate vast improvement by reading aloud, as well as listening to someone else read the text aloud.
3. Is there a “system” for this style of self editing which follows specific steps?
Answer: Yes, a successful organic edit consists of several steps, which should be done in a specific order. No single facet of this method is difficult. If you spend time getting to know your manuscript, you’ll be shocked at how much better you can make it before it goes to press.
